01Fork a coin

Fork a blockchain. Launch your own coin today.

Fork a blockchain you already trust: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dash or PIVX. You set the name, supply and rewards, and your coin goes live on its own network in about 30 minutes, with a brand new genesis block.

02Two kinds of fork

What it means to fork a cryptocurrency.

"Fork" means two different things. Only one of them gives you a coin of your own.

Chain split

old rulesnew rules
Shared history, then a split. Holders get coins on both sides. Bitcoin Cash began this way in 2017. It needs a community to follow it, so it is not something you order. See what a hard fork is.

Code fork: your own coin

Litecoincode, not historygenesisyour coin
Proven code, a fresh chain. Your coin starts at block zero with its own genesis block, name and rules. No balances come over from the original. Litecoin and Dogecoin started like this. This is what you launch here.

03Pick the coin you fork

Six blockchains you can fork, and what each one gives you.

Each base brings its mining or staking model, its block speed and its open-source code. Prices are one-time.

Latest release and licence read from each project's GitHub page in October 2026. Want smart contracts or MetaMask instead? Start from an EVM chain or a Cosmos app chain.

Want miners?

Dogecoin for most new coins, Litecoin or Bitcoin for a halving schedule. See how each one copes with miners.

Want passive income for holders?

Dash or PIVX: masternodes earn part of every block. Try the numbers in the masternode guide.

Want no mining?

PIVX: staked, so nobody can rent hash power to attack it.

04Make it yours

What you change when you fork, and what you keep.

You set the economics. The tested engine underneath stays the same.

You decide

  • Name and ticker

    Default (Litecoin)
    yours
    What it does
    What wallets and explorers show
  • Max supply

    Default (Litecoin)
    84,000,000
    What it does
The most coins that will ever exist
  • Block time

    Default (Litecoin)
    150 s
    What it does
How often a block is made
  • Block reward

    Default (Litecoin)
    50
    What it does
New coins for each block's miner
  • Halving every

    Default (Litecoin)
    840,000 blocks
    What it does
When the reward halves (0 means never)
  • Coin maturity

    Default (Litecoin)
    100 blocks
    What it does
When mined coins can be spent
  • Address letter

    Default (Litecoin)
    B
    What it does
The first letter of every address
  • Masternodes

    Default (Litecoin)
    1,000 coins, 50 percent
    What it does
Dash and PIVX forks: collateral and reward share

Every field starts on a safe default marked Recommended in the builder.

You keep, from the base

  • The mining or staking rules, tested for years
  • Transactions, scripts and addresses that wallets understand
  • The same commands apps and pools already use
  • Security fixes up to the release you fork

Fixed at launch

Supply, block time, reward, halving and consensus are written into the genesis rules. Changing them later takes a hard fork every node must accept. Add-ons can be added any time.

Litecoin defaults: half of all coins in the first 840,000 blocks, about four years. Each dot is a halving.

05From fork to live

How to fork a cryptocurrency here, in four steps.

No code to edit, no genesis block to mine by hand. The platform does it.

  1. STEP 1

    Pick a base

One of the six coins above.

  2. STEP 2

    Set your rules

Name, supply, rewards. The full price shows as you go.

  3. STEP 3

    Pay in crypto

BTC, ETH, USDT or seven other coins. Confirms in minutes.

  4. STEP 4

    Your coin is live

About 30 minutes later, on at least two nodes. Point your domain at it.

Doing it yourself means editing the network ID, ports, address prefixes and supply rules, mining a new genesis block, building the code and running seed nodes. Our fork Bitcoin guide walks through every file, and the genesis block guide explains the first block.

06Before you launch

A forked coin is only as safe as its miners.

The code is proven. A brand new network is small. Plan for that on day one.

Hash power for rent, against the biggest coin on each algorithm

Scrypt vs Litecoin8.5%

Any of these vs a new coinfar over 100 percent

Bring miners early

A mining pool gives them one address and steady payouts.

Ask exchanges to wait

More confirmations make double spends harder while you grow.

Or skip mining

A PIVX fork is staked: there is no hash power to rent. Read the 51 percent attack guide.

07Price

What it costs to fork a blockchain.

One price for the fork, a small monthly fee per server to keep it running.

Fork price, one-time

Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Bitcoin Cash
$199
Dash and PIVX
$249

Hosting after launch: $9 per server a month ($19 for Dash and PIVX). Every fork starts on two nodes.

See your exact price

Worked example: a Litecoin fork with a block explorer

$199 + $149 = $348 one-time. Hosting 3 servers x $9 = $27 a month.

09Questions

Fork a blockchain: questions

Short answers before you pick a base.

How do you fork a cryptocurrency?

Take an open-source coin's code, change its network identity and supply rules, create a new genesis block and run at least two nodes. Here, you pick the base and the rules, and the platform does the rest in about 30 minutes.

Do I get coins from the original chain?

No. A code fork starts from its own genesis block, so no balances carry over. Holders only get coins on both sides in a chain split, like Bitcoin Cash.

Is it legal to fork a coin?

All six bases are released under the MIT licence, which allows forks. What you do with the coin, like selling it, can bring its own rules in your country.

Which coin is best to fork?

Dogecoin for most mined coins, since its difficulty adjusts every block. Dash or PIVX for masternodes, PIVX if you want no mining. The best coin to fork guide compares them in depth.

Can I fork Dash and keep masternodes?

Yes. A Dash fork keeps mining and masternodes. You choose the collateral and the share of each reward masternodes earn.

How much does it cost to fork a blockchain?

$199 one-time for a Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin or Bitcoin Cash fork, $249 for Dash or PIVX, plus hosting from $9 per server a month.

Can I change the rules after launch?

Supply, block time and rewards are fixed at launch. Changing them later needs a hard fork that every node accepts. Add-ons can be added any time.
