Base logoBase node

A dedicated Base node. Quiet when Base gets loud.

A Base node that belongs to you answers your app and nobody else. Blocks on Base come fast and traffic comes in bursts, so a private endpoint on a server sized for Base keeps your reads and sends out of the shared queue.

Pick in ten seconds

If your app reads Base as it is today, take the full node. If it must replay a block from months ago, take the archive.

03How it works

How a Base node works: it reads Ethereum, then builds Base.

Base is a layer 2. Its blocks are worked out from data posted to Ethereum, so every Base node leans on an Ethereum node.

  1. Ethereum L1

Base follows an Ethereum node for its RPC and its beacon endpoint. L1 must be in sync first.

  2. Consensus node

Reads Base data from Ethereum and works out each Base block.

  3. Execution client

Holds the state and runs the EVM, Reth based.

  4. Your endpoint

JSON-RPC on nodes.herorpc.com. Base peers use ports 30303 and 9222.

Base docs ask for your own Ethereum node plus a beacon endpoint. Public RPCs are rate limited and not meant for production.

That makes a Base endpoint only as steady as the Ethereum node behind it.

Apps should call the node RPC. The Flashblocks WebSocket feeds are meant for node infrastructure only.

Base grows fast, so old guides mislead. These are the snapshot sizes Base itself published this month.

05Base, specifically

Six Base facts that save you a weekend.

The things that surprise people who try to run Base themselves.

Ethereum comes first

Base needs an Ethereum RPC and a beacon endpoint, and the Ethereum node must finish syncing before Base can start.

The software moved

Base now ships from the base/base repository (version 1.3.0 on). The old base/node repository was due to be archived on 4 September 2026, yet many guides still point at it.

Days to first sync

Even from a snapshot, the first sync can take days. Historical proofs then backfill for roughly 24 to 48 hours.

Four ports

Peers use 30303 and 9222 over TCP and UDP. JSON-RPC listens on 8545, and the consensus side shows its sync status on 7545.

Plan for double

Base advises a disk of twice the chain size, plus the snapshot, plus 20 percent. Local NVMe is the recommendation.

Flashblocks are not for apps

The Flashblocks WebSocket endpoints serve node infrastructure. An app should query a node RPC instead.

06Who rents one

Who rents a dedicated Base node.

Anyone whose Base traffic has outgrown a shared endpoint.

Consumer apps and mini apps

Traffic arrives in waves. A private endpoint keeps balances and contract reads steady while a launch goes viral.

Trading and arbitrage bots

Fast blocks reward fast reads. Your own node means no other bot spends your request budget.

Indexers and analytics

Replaying activity across a busy chain is a job for an archive node, with no daily cap on lookups.

Wallets and payment backends

Log queries for deposits and transfers stay predictable when no shared rate limit sits in the way.

10Questions

Base node questions

Real questions from node operators, answered plainly.

Does a Base node need its own Ethereum node?

Yes. Base reads batch data from Ethereum, so it needs an Ethereum RPC and a beacon endpoint. Ours comes from our own Ethereum node and is already connected to your Base node, so there is nothing to bring.

Why is my Base node stuck and not adding blocks?

Look at the Ethereum side first. Base waits on its L1, so an Ethereum node that is behind or not answering stops Base blocks from rising.

Why is syncing a Base node so slow?

Base documents that a first sync can take days, even from a snapshot, and that historical proofs backfill for about 24 to 48 hours afterwards.

What does "nonce has already been used" mean?

Your wallet or bot reused a transaction number the chain already accepted. Send the next unused nonce, or let your library choose it.

Why does my Base node have few peers?

Peers connect on ports 30303 and 9222, both TCP and UDP. If a firewall blocks them, the node finds few or no peers.

Why is RPC refused on localhost:8545?

The node listens on the machine itself by default. A private endpoint is how your app reaches it from outside, not an open port.

Is the public Base RPC good enough for production?

Base says no: public endpoints are rate limited and not suitable for production workloads. A private node removes that ceiling.

How big is a Base full node and a Base archive node?

Base publishes a 901.6 GB full snapshot and a 4.2 TB archive snapshot (5.1 TB with historical proofs), as of 15 October 2026.

What does a private Base RPC node cost per month?

Expect $139 a month for the full node, or $289 a month once you want the whole history. Setup is free, and paying 3, 6 or 12 months ahead takes 10, 15 or 25 percent off.

When can I start sending requests?

Your endpoint and server logins appear in your dashboard within 24 hours of payment.
