A dedicated Sui node. Your own endpoint, no public limits.

A Sui node is a computer that follows every Sui checkpoint and answers questions about the chain. A dedicated Sui node answers only your app. It runs on a server sized for Sui, and a backup node runs next to it. Public endpoints share their limits among everyone. Yours is shared with nobody.

02Node type

What a Sui full node can and cannot answer.

We sell one type for Sui: the full node. This is the shape of what it knows.

Full node

$289/mo

Keeps
Sui's live state, plus the recent history that its pruning setting retains
Query
Objects, balances, transactions, checkpoints and events, and sending signed transactions
Cannot
Return history the node pruned. Those queries come back NOT_FOUND
Older history
Comes from Sui's archival service, not from a full node
Disk
Sui's docs say a 4 TB NVMe minimum, and 7 TB or more without pruning

The one-line test

If your app needs now and the recent past, a full node is plenty. If it needs every checkpoint since launch, that is the archival service.

03How it works

How a Sui node works: checkpoints, not replays.

The node does not redo every transaction since day one. It checks the chain at its checkpoints.

  1. sui-node

The full node program from Mysten Labs. It checks certified checkpoints against the validator committee.

  2. Peers, UDP 8084

The peer port must be reachable by other Sui nodes.

  3. API, port 9000

Serves gRPC and JSON-RPC. The docs put it behind a TLS proxy on 443.

  4. Your endpoint

Your private address on nodes.herorpc.com. The key is part of the URL.

A Sui node follows certified checkpoints and checks each one against the validator committee. That is how it trusts the chain without replaying it.

A new node starts from a snapshot of the live objects at the end of an epoch. The docs say syncing from genesis takes a very long time.

Two ports are not for the internet: metrics on 9184 and admin on 1337. The admin port has no login. Yours is only reached through your private endpoint.

04Know the field

Sui disk: pruned or not.

The docs give two numbers for a full node. The gap between them is pruning.

Minimum NVMe4 TB
Without pruning7 TB or more

Pruning keeps the last few epochs and drops the rest. The docs example keeps 14.

sui-node is the full node program from Mysten Labs. It reads a pruning setting, which decides how much history stays on disk.

05Sui, specifically

Six Sui facts that decide what a node does for you.

These are the details that surprise people moving to their own Sui node.

JSON-RPC is on its way out

The Sui docs call JSON-RPC deprecated and say operators must enable gRPC. Check which one your SDK calls before you pick an endpoint.

Lists need indexing

gRPC list queries for transactions, events and checkpoints need indexing switched on. During the first index build, the node may not serve other traffic.

Snapshot, not genesis

Start from a formal snapshot. It holds the live objects at the end of an epoch, so a new node catches up fast.

Pruning has a price

Pruned gRPC queries return NOT_FOUND. History older than the retained epochs lives in the archival service.

Two ports, two jobs

TCP 9000 carries the API and UDP 8084 carries peers. The docs suggest TLS on 443 in front of the API.

Open by default

Metrics on 9184 bind to every address unless you change them, and the admin port on 1337 has no login. Both belong on localhost.

06Who rents one

Why teams rent a dedicated Sui node.

Public Sui endpoints are fine for a demo. These teams outgrew them.

Wallets and app backends

Balances and objects for your users, without a rate limit shared with strangers.

Indexers and analytics

Checkpoints, events and transactions at the pace you need, with indexing under your control.

Trading and arbitrage bots

A node of your own to read from and submit to, so latency is not a guess.

Teams moving from JSON-RPC to gRPC

A steady endpoint to point at while the migration is half done.

07Price check

Sui costs less than half of Allnodes.

The Allnodes list price for a dedicated Sui plan is $640 a month.

10Questions

Sui node questions

Real questions from node operators, answered plainly.

How do I run a Sui full node?

Install sui-node, restore a snapshot instead of syncing from genesis, set a pruning rule, open UDP 8084 for peers and put the API behind TLS. Or rent a dedicated node and skip all of it.

Is Sui JSON-RPC going away?

The Sui docs call it deprecated and tell operators to enable gRPC. If your SDK still uses JSON-RPC, it keeps working for now, but plan the move.

Do I need indexing switched on?

Only for gRPC list queries such as transactions, events and checkpoints. While the node builds its first index it may not serve other traffic.

What does pruning do to my queries?

A pruned node answers recent questions and returns NOT_FOUND for old ones. The docs example keeps 14 epochs.

Which ports does a Sui full node use?

TCP 9000 for the API and UDP 8084 for peers. Metrics sit on 9184 and admin on 1337, and neither belongs on the open internet.

Can the node give me full history?

No. Older history comes from Sui's archival service. A full node keeps what its pruning setting allows.

Will the Sui TypeScript SDK work with it?

Yes. The SDK takes a custom node URL, so point it at your endpoint instead of a public one.

What does a Sui node cost each month?

$289 a month with no setup fee. Prepaying 12 months lowers the monthly price by 25 percent.

How long until my Sui node answers?

Expect it within a day. You will find the endpoint and logins on your dashboard.
