Gnosis Chain logoGnosis Chain node

A Gnosis node with room to breathe. One endpoint, only yours.

A Gnosis node follows Gnosis Chain for you alone. Read balances, call contracts and send transactions paid in xDAI through a private endpoint. A backup node comes with it.

The Gnosis Chain full node

One node type, running both halves of a Gnosis node: execution and consensus.

Gnosis Chain's current state and the blocks behind it
Query
Contract calls, event logs and balances, plus sending transactions that pay gas in xDAI
Sync
The docs say the execution side may take one to three days to catch up
Good for
Multisig wallet tools, payment apps, DAO dashboards and bots

Gas is a dollar

Gnosis Chain pays fees in xDAI, a dollar stablecoin. For bots and payment apps, that keeps the cost of a call easy to budget.

03How it works

How a Gnosis node works: an execution client and a consensus client.

Two programs run side by side. Each one needs the other.

  1. Consensus client

Lighthouse, Lodestar, Nimbus or Teku. It starts from a checkpoint instead of syncing from scratch.

  2. Execution client

Nethermind, Erigon, Reth or Geth. It holds state and runs the EVM.

  3. Engine API, port 8551

The link between the two, protected by a shared JWT secret.

  4. Your endpoint

    JSON-RPC through nodes.herorpc.com. Peers use 30303.

The Gnosis docs recommend picking a minority client for each half, which helps the network stay healthy.

The consensus half fast-starts from https://checkpoint.gnosischain.com, a Gnosis-specific checkpoint address.

You get one URL. The JWT secret and the 8551 link stay inside the server.

04Know the field

Four execution clients, four consensus clients.

Gnosis supports the same shape of client matrix as Ethereum. Disk is the bottleneck, so the docs care most about the drive.

The docs give no single disk size for a Gnosis node and say disk is the bottleneck: NVMe is preferred and a SATA SSD is acceptable.

05Gnosis Chain, specifically

Five Gnosis facts that save an afternoon.

Small chain, specific details. These come from the Gnosis Chain docs.

Give it a few days

The execution client may take one to three days to sync. The consensus client is quick, thanks to the checkpoint.

Three ports

Peers on 30303 over TCP and UDP, the Engine API on 8551, and JSON-RPC on 8545 for Reth and Geth.

A secret between the halves

The Engine API link is protected by a JWT secret that both programs must share.

xDAI pays the gas

Fees on Gnosis Chain are paid in xDAI, a stablecoin, so costs do not swing with a volatile gas token.

Validators need one GNO

A Gnosis validator stakes 1 GNO. A node does not need it, but the same pair of clients runs underneath.

06Who rents one

Who rents a Gnosis node.

Plenty of people use Gnosis Chain. Few of them need a private node, and those who do know why.

Wallet and multisig tools

Apps that show balances and pending transactions for many accounts at once.

Payment and stablecoin apps

Checkouts that settle in xDAI and check each payment against a node of their own.

DAO and governance tools

Dashboards that read votes and treasury balances on a schedule.

Bridges and analytics

Services that watch Gnosis Chain bridges and report on what crosses them.

10Questions

Gnosis node questions

Real questions from node operators, answered plainly.

How do I run a Gnosis node?

Run an execution client and a consensus client side by side. Connect them over the Engine API on port 8551 with a shared JWT secret. Or rent a node and skip the wiring.

Which clients can I use?

For execution: Nethermind, Erigon, Reth or Geth. For consensus: Lighthouse, Lodestar, Nimbus or Teku. The docs recommend a minority client.

How long does a Gnosis node take to sync?

The docs say the execution side may take one to three days. The consensus side can start from `https://checkpoint.gnosischain.com`.

How big is a Gnosis node?

The docs do not give one number, and say disk is the bottleneck. NVMe is preferred, and a SATA SSD is acceptable.

What does Erigon do about pruning on Gnosis?

It prunes fully by default. Set `--prune.mode=archive` before the first start if you want to keep everything.

Which ports does a Gnosis node use?

Peers on 30303 (TCP and UDP), the Engine API on 8551 and JSON-RPC on 8545 for Reth and Geth.

What do I pay gas in?

xDAI, a dollar stablecoin. A validator, by contrast, stakes 1 GNO.

What does a Gnosis node cost?

$139 a month. There is no setup fee, and paying 3 months ahead saves 10 percent, and 12 months saves 25 percent.

When can I start using my Gnosis node?

Inside 24 hours. After payment, your dashboard page holds the endpoint and logins.

Gnosis Chain, privately.

$139 a month. A second node runs beside yours.
